December 7, 2009—Private commercial spaceflight inches a little closer to reality Monday as Virgin Galactic took the wraps off SpaceShipTwo, the VSS Enterprise, during a special unveiling event at the Mojave Air and Spaceport in California. Prior to the official unveiling, scheduled for approximately 5 p.m. PDT, EAA Chairman/President Tom Poberezny reported that he senses the spirit of EAA and EAA innovation throughout the hangar.
“Sharon and I are here with about 900 guests and media representatives from all over the world,” he said. “EAAers Dick and Burt Rutan, Mike Melville – all the people at Scaled Composites are deservedly very proud today. It’s also an exciting time for EAA, and I am very proud that EAA has played a role in the development of this program and continues to be a part of it. There are EAA members all over the place. The EAA spirit of innovation is present, and all EAA members should be proud.”
