Looking for recommendations on specialists in fuel tank repair. JB Weld does great for a seeping rivet or two but this job goes beyond that. Advice appreciated. YMOS, Fred

Hello
The fuel tanks for the Piper 28 is a sealed sheet metal assembly. The only long term repair is to remove, drill out the rivets, clean the parts and reseal with wet installed rivets. There use to be a guy that advertised in most of the piper owners club publications. Around 1500 dollars for the repair. There is a problem with replacing them because they are match drilled to the wings.
Good Luck

And please be aware that the FAA considers this to be a major repair.

Dave, Could you provide more information? Which FSDO and what portions of FAR 43 constites this to be a major repair? Best I can see, so long as certified materials are used and no changes to the certified design are performed, this is a minor repair.
Thanks,
Rick
