I'm not sure that I want to send any more traffic to this particular blog, but I thought the post, and, especially, the comments that have come after it, were worth reading.

Hal:
This also is on the AOPA (Red) board and most of us dutifully went over there and scolded him for this bad idea. We also pointed out his errors. I dunno if he got the message. He was a military trained pilot so I guess he is used to having "special places" for his aviating.

Hi Hal ...
I read Chris Manno's post. The core of his comment addresses the wisdom of visual separation clearances. I have to write that he has a clear and valid point there - visual separation clearances, especially impromptu ones, are not always wise when applied to a mix of aircraft with broad differences in performance or when applied in busy airspace. I do take issue with his attitude toward pilots who fly small GA aircraft, but his real point (to which his post could have been confined) is a good one and worthy of all of us to consider, no matter what we fly.
