Edited to include a bit more info:

Researchers at Stanford University have developed a hand-launched aerial drone that lands on vertical walls. The UAV flies straight at a vertical surface, then slows dramatically while pitching vertical to softly land and adhere to the wall with specially designed talons, according to Gizmodo.com. It's called The Perching Project and originates from the Biomimetics and Dexterous Manipulation Lab at Stanford. The inventors envision that a fleet of these vehicles could be sent into an urban area and hide out in obscurity for days collecting data and then move on.

The landing gear is really pretty cool.  The rest of it is very common design already.  See www.fancyfoam.com for examples.

Also, landing on walls is a fun trick already.  :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JedbCo__QJk

Strange - looks like they made the original video private and then reposted what looks like the same one.

Should be fixed now ...
