I have only ever been to one and it was a while back too. It was a competition at a local airport to see who could make it in the target. I cant remember if there was any young eagles aspect of the event, there could have been but i dont think so.

There'll be a pumpkin dropping contest this weekend at St. Charles Flying Service at St. Charles County-Smartt Field, St. Charles County, MO (KSET), so it's still being done.

Great Story Bob!
I have never seen or done the pumpkin thing, but back in my Air Force Reserve days as a loadmaster I flew a lot of Tactical air drop missions. Once during an Armed Forces Day parade fly over, I unloaded several rolls of Charmin on Wisconsin Ave in Milwaukee. I wonder how many pumpkins I could load into our club TriPacer?

Yes it certainly is that time of year again !!
We plan to hold our 15th annual "Pumpkin Drop" at the "secret airfield in the hills along the Missouri border" (mentioned in the above article) in a little over a week.
There are also two other similar events that I know of. One in central Iowa and the other in Mississippi.
