As
photos of the new Chinese stealth aircraft, the J-20 “Black Eagle,” made the
rounds last week, China was already moving on to the flight test phase. On
Tuesday (January 11) the prototype made its first flight from an airfield in
Chengdu. The flight briefly raised geo-political eyebrows because U.S. Defense
Secretary Robert Gates visited China Tuesday to cool military tensions between
the two countries. China’s President Hu
Jintao denied the flight was pre-planned and not timed to coincide with Secretary
Gates’ visit.
