Jonathan Trappe, whom you've recently seen profiled in the magazine and e-Hotline, is coming to AirVenture and is planning on doing a flight during the event. At this point, all we know is that it will take place in the evening, likely around 7:00PM, one night Wed - Sat, and he's looking for ground crew. Here are his specific requirements:

I need 10 strong, able bodied, eager volunteers!  3 hour setup with volunteers, plus two hours setup beforehand with crew chief and I;   For volunteers: the helium bottles are 143 pounds each; now, we don’t typically lift these-- we roll them-- but it is a little more physical than you might expect from a “balloon filling” role!  Would love to meet day before to give safety briefing when all is quiet and relaxed-- discussing the tether lines, high pressure helium bottles, filling procedure-- but we can also do that right before inflation.

We'll post more details as we get them, but if you're going to be here this year (ideally the whole week) and think you'd be willing to lend a hand, reply to this thread and I'll start compiling the list.

Thanks!

Hello,

My name is Bryan Dever and I would love to volunteer for this!  The issue of the EAA magazine that featured the cluster balloon has not left my desk since it came in the mail.  I was blown away (pun intended) when I read it.

I am a trained and experienced fixed wing ultralight pilot and builder.  I am also a construction worker by trade, so moving  heavy tanks is not a problem. I will be at Airventure for the week and will be camping at Camp Scholler.  I have already purchased my tickets.

Feel free to contact me.

My son, possibly two of my friends, and I should be able to help out. We'll either be staying in Camp Scholler or in the North 40.

Always looking for something different at OSH! This will be my 29th year!

Hi, my name is Chris Moran, I am one of the Rotorcraft flightline volunteers working in the UL area where you will be launching from, if I can help out just ask one of the UL volunteers or the rotorcraft volunteers to contact me, they can reach me by radio, call sign (Rotorcraft three). I am there all week and would be happy to lend a hand in the morning. if you need me try and reach me earlier in the week. No phone number I am from Canada and the phone is just to expensive to use in the US. Cheers, good luck.

Many thanks everyone - I've just been in contact with Jonathan and I'll be sending an email update out to the group of you in the next day or so. At that point, we're going to have to figure out an easy way for me to get word to all of you that "today's the day", as Jonathan's flight is obviously very weather dependent ... it'll be case of him making a go / no-go decision at around 1:45 PM on the projected launch day, and then as many of you as are available meeting us at the launch site at about 3:00 PM.

I know you'll all have questions - let's work on those once I've sent around the email and we'll go from there.

Thanks to all of you for volunteering in the best EAA spirit - this is an unusual opportunity for all of us, and we look forward to another Oshkosh "first!"

- Hal

Might I suggest using Twitter through EAAUPDATE ?
