Any Zenith builders or wanna' be builders out there >>>  in cyber space?

I'm building a CH 801 STOL (N801YZ-reserved) er, maybe I should say that I am collecting parts (kits) and plan to build an 801.

I've managed to scrape together the following kits:

Flaperons & Leading Edge Slats

Tail

Gears & Wheels

Controls

Wing Strut Fairing

In hindsight, I should have bought the fuselage kit FIRST (duh!)

I am going to power the bird with a 3 rotor (20B) Mazda/Wankel engine.

Are you at home now, or at Oshkosh?

I'm coming up to Oshkosh, this Thu, Fri, Sat & Sun. I'm camping at Camp Scholler.

You certainly do not have to be a Zenith builder to reply. I'd like to hear from anyone and everyone.

Thanks,

Perry

Perry --

If you're at AirVenture on Thursday, are you aware there is a Zenith builders dinner that night?

   See:   http://www.zenith.aero/events/zenith-builders-dinner

I believe a few of our chapter's members attending AirVenture will be attending this dinner.

Penny

Penny,

Thank you for the reminder about the Zenith builder's dinner. Unfortunately, I have a doctor's appointment Thu afternoon, and won't get into Oshkosh until late in the evening... darn the luck.

I'm a member of EAA Chapter 129, in Bloomington, IL. I wonder if chapters106 & 129 were chartered about the same time, due to the numerical similarities? By the way, while away in Iraq,  my EAA dues lapsed. I plan to renew them at the gate. That'll be kinda' cool.

Thank's again for your input,

Perry

Hey Perry, you missed a great Zenith Dinner.  Mark did a great job as MC again this year.  If the Zenith community continues to grow they are going to have to find a bigger hall to host the meal as there were several people who had to eat out in the main restaurant this year.  Somone said over 200 people.

Hope you had a good trip to Oshkosh.  I spent the whole week there plus a few days volunteering on camper registration.  I'm already looking forward to next year.

I built a CH601HDS a few years back.  It was a great experience.  Support from Zenith AC was great.  Now I own a type-certificated Chris Heintz design - an AMD Alarus.  Almost as much fun as the Zodiac, but this one I can rent out!

Hi guys. This year was my first time flying in, drove a few times before.  I had my 801 in the Zenith display area. Good weather, great people, hey, it's Oshkosh, what else needs to be said. <G>

Hello,

I have a question, and since you are building a Zenith, can you tell me, is the engine (whichever one you select)  Included in the price, or is it extra?  Just curious.

Hope to hear back soon.

Howard

I'm considering building a CH-750 for my first aircraft. I checked it out very closely at Oshkosh and everything looked great to me. And probably more important than anything else: IT FITS!

As to the engine package, that's over and above the kit price. Builders may choose from any number of suitable engines, some may have "firewall forward" packages fully engineered, others not. So there's a broad range as to what the total costs might be -- good reason to quote the airframe price separately.

I'm a CH-750 full kit builder.  I did the rudder workshop right after Oshkosh.  I haven't committed to an engine/prop yet.  Considering Jabiru and Corvair.

I haven't touched my kit  recently 'cause I'm getting my private pilot on an accellerated pace.  I'll be back working on the STOL bird in a few days.

Hi Perry,  I started building an 801 in 2002 but had to sell my project in 2003 due to health reasons.  My cardiologist cleared me to fly again after bypass surgery and I started a CH701 to fly under LSA rules.  The gentleman did not want my completed 801 horizontal stabilizer and elevator because Chris Heintz changed the design to accomodate larger and heavier engines.  If you are interested in the parts, let me know. Both are packed in wooden crates and have been inspected for quality by a Cessna engineer.  I am an A&P mechanic and live in Oklahoma at Avian Airpark (OK15) near Tulsa.

Hi Perry.  i'm a fan of the 701 and attended the rudder workshop. I'd planned to build the 701 and then started hearing rumors of the 750 about 2004-2005 and waited for it while working on the Tailwind.  The 750 will be my next project.  Would love to build the 801 but its a little over my budget.  Short field, low and slow.  Fit my mission profile perfectly.

Do any of you know if you can plans build the 801? I have attempted to email Zenith with this question but have yet to get a reply.

I seen that they offered plans for the 701 but have not been able to find out if they are offered for the bigger airplane.

There are no plans available to build an 801 with. Chris Heinz learned the hard way with the 701 and those plans getting copied and alot of people made good money off his ideas... Think Savannah .......The 801 is sold as components or as a complete kit only.

Hi Perry!

My dad and I are working on an 801... slow build, but progressing.  http://www.zenith.aero/profile/TaylorOgden

Are you aware of the Zenith Builders site?  It's a good place to network and communicate with other 801 builders.

Taylor

I am in Atlanta, not too far from pdk, and have just about completed the tail kit for the ch750. Progress slowed down due to the holidays but  I'm getting back on track. Are there any other 750 builders in the Atlanta area?

Tom

I have just entered the forum and so I am unsure of what to do.  Having said that I am thinking of building a CH-640.  Can you give me some advice and thoughts of the experience you have had building the CH-750?

Mike Williams

Mike, my experience with Zenith has been great. I recommend you spend some time in Mexico, MO to get to know the people who will be supporting you....you can even do a demo flight in the bird of your choice. The kit has been going together as planned with no surprises or major stumbling blocks and I am very pleased with my choice.

A friend and I have looked at the Zenith website and looked over what was available about the CH 701 and CH 801.

From you people out there currently building and/or flying them; what do you think of them? (flying characteristics, that one single "yoke", and engineoptions).

Thanks!
