I heard that there will be some re-arranging of the Warbirds grounds for 2010.

Can anyone elaborate?  I checked the EAA maps and couldn't see any obvious changes.

Greg,

You might want to check out Steve Taylor's blog here:

Steve does a fairly regular update on what's being planned and working on as far as AirVenture projects are concerned.  I did read a mention by Steve on his blog near the end of his November 12, 2009 update, where he said "Along with all that, the Warbirds are currently considering several projects and enhancements in their area, too."

Hi Greg,

At this time, we're in the planning stages.  The main focus of the improvements to the Warbirds area include construction of a new Warbirds Aircraft Display Area, relocation of Warbirds in Review to the north, relocation of the food services to the the northwest, relocation of the WW-II Living History Encampment to the southeast, expansion of the Warbirds Merchandise building to the east, and construction of a Veterans Memorial Area.  At some point in the future, we'll be able to share a revised site plan with our members.  It's a very exciting project which will make the Warbirds Area one of the anchor attraction areas on the EAA AirVenture site.  Keep checking back for updates!

Best wishes,

Bill Fischer, Executive Director

Bill,

Thanks for the thorough update on Warbirds area improvements planning.  We spend at least 50% of our AirVenture time in the Warbirds area.  The site improvement projects you've revealed sound very exciting and I am very much looking forward to experiencing those in the future.  Looking forward to further updates.

Regards,

Russ

Bill,

Thanks for the info.  This sounds like a major renovation of the entire area. I Can't wait to see all the changes.

It sounds exciting.  See you in July.

Greg,

You're most welcome.  And in the event that you don't already know this, Steve Taylor, along with Adam Smith are putting on a Webinar (online Web Seminar) where (if I understand it correctly) they will be discussing the upcoming changes at Oshkosh for AirVenture 2010.  The date is March 18th at 7:00 P.M. and you need to pre-register.  I'm pre-registered and will be attending (online).

Here is the link:

To all,

The Warbirds site project has begun.  I'll be posting photos from time to time, giving folks an update.  Yesterday, the old ice cream building came down.  There are two possible stories - either a lone Stuka came screaming out of the Oshkosh overcast and dropped it's payload directly on the roof of the building, smashing it to pieces.....or an end loader knocked it over - you choose.

Please note - Ice cream WILL be available in the new Warbirds Food Court Area.

- Bill

Are you sure it was a Stuka?? Only a Fokker would destroy an Ice Cream stand!

Looking forward to your updates and photos Bill. Can't wait to see the improvements first hand in July.
