Color photo from WWI ...! Farman MF.11(?)

I was just reading a bit about a man named Albert Kahn who, with a team of photographers using autochrome cameras, captured some 70,000 color photos, starting as early as 1909. Staggering.

I've come across one aircraft picture in the bunch, and I'm about 90% sure it's a Farman MF.11, though the turreted front gun doesn't seem to show up in any other pictures I've come across.

If I'm wrong, I'm eagerly awaiting correction from one of the usual suspects ... in the meantime, have a look:

That's fantastic Hal.  There's a WWI autochrome of a Nieuport that I've seen several times before but never the Farman . Wonderful find.

Years later, people will look back at this thread, shake their heads sadly and say "... and that's when Hal first got totally obsessed with autochromes...!"

Beautiful stuff - I had no inkling that there would be that many images out there ...

This is glorious and stunning to the ultimate degree. I could go beserk over these photos....and bless the photographer.

 

This is a wonderful window into the past...and I only wish more photos were available.
