Does anyone know where I can get plans for a spencer air car? I have been searching for and amphibian that has just the right characteristics for me and I think this is the one. The problem is I cant find where I get plans for one. I would like to talk to anyone that has one although I know they are kind of a rare bird. Any help on this would be really appreciated.

Thanks Shane

We have a big feature on Doug Palmer's amazing Spencer Air Car coming up in the March edition of EAA Sport Aviation magazine.  Join EAA to get it!   Some extra photos here:   http://eaa.org/apps/galleries/gallery.aspx?ID=294

Doug's White Albatross website seems to be offline at the moment but most of the information is available on the internet archive:

I was looking around for plans too and dug this up:

About 3/4 of the way down the page there's this:

Complete set of blueprints available for $300.00.
Please contact
Mr. Robert Kerans of Spencer Aircraft
Box 327
Kansas, IL  61933

For Details of Aircar or Seminar Tel (217) 948-550

I don't know if that info is current though - I suspect it's old.  If you find out either way, please report back.

I'm joining the Yahoo! Aircar group (waiting for approval).  I'll search for plans info there and let you know!

Thanks, Dai

Here's what I found out from the Yahoo! Aircar Group;  it looks like as recently as October 2009, plans were available here:

Mrs. W. Kerans
217-948-5505 or 847-882-5678
Fax: 847-882-0123

$300 + $25 shipping

There's a lot of info in that group BTW.

Only slightly off-topic:  I remember a '50s kids' TV show where the hero flew around the jungle in one of these, or maybe a Sea Bee.  I've searched the web for some reference but have failed to find it.  Can anybody help point me to it?  Thanks.

As indicated above, the best path is to join http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Aircar/ , then read the messages around February 27 through March 1, 2010 (you'll understand why). Hope this helps!

Shane,

I have a complete set of drawings for Spencer Aircar Serial Number 431, including the cabin installation drawings, with all engineering changes.  I purchased them from Spence and Dale "Andy" Anderson years ago but was unable to get the money together to build the aircraft.  Now at 81, I doubt if I finally got the money, I would hvw time enough to finish and fly the lovely bird.

You can contact me at <ribbitaero@yahoo.com>.

Shane,

I was in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho last week and visited Pappy Boyington Field.

While there, I was introduced to a gentlemen who is having his Aircar overhauled and refurbished at the moment.

I visited with him, the plane and the person doing the work.  The man doing the work is in a facility the locals call Jay's Hangar.  I forget the actual business name at this time.  The owner may not be flying it anymore is what I gathered from our discussions.

If you would like me to get you contact information, please let me know.

Best,

John

Hello Mr Holcomb,

My name is Marvin Burkett and I was wondering if your Air Car plans were still for sale.  I'm getting ready to retire from the United States Air Force and I'm ready to try my hand at building one of these beauties.  If the plans are stiil for sale, could you please let me know what you would be asking for them.

Thank you for your time...

Marvin Burkett

Hello Pedro,

Could you explain yourself?

All of those phone numbers work.  They go to my mother and father's home and office for the Spencer Air Car factory.

I am Robert Kerans.  Currently a part owner with my mother, Wanda Kerans.

We are still selling the complete plans.  The other componet parts are available as needed.

We would be happy to help and assist anybody with their needs in getting copies of the plans and parts.

Thank you,

Robert Kerans

Hanger/office: (217)948-5505, this is only for reference since it was noted above.

The Plans are available for sale.
