Hi folks,           Can anyone give me a source that can sell me four of the heavy duty 5/8 wing strut forks and four of the 5/8 weld in barrels for my clip wing cubby? I called Univair yesterday and they would be happy to sell me the forks but will not, under any circumstance, sell me the weld in barrels. They are quick to start yakking about the liability issue but I think the real issue is they make a lot more profit selling fabricated struts. I then called aircraft spruce and wag aero. They have the same problem, namely, Univair wont sell the barrels to them either.    Any suggestions? Thanks, M.D.Moon

Hey Marc,

Why don't you try F.Atlee Dodge up in Alaska.  He has the heavy duty forks, I think or how about Cub Crafters in Washington State.  I bet one of them could provide them.  Good Luck!!!

Richard, Thanks for the suggestion, I had not even thought of them . I'll give them a call. Yesterday I called Univair again and talked to a sales rep. named Mike. He took my side in earnest and contacted Univairs president, Mr. Stephen E. Dyer, but it was no dice, no can, or will do. He did give me the specs. on the material they use to construct those barrels etc. so I could have a good machine shop make me some. I even called Legend Cub here in Tex. to see if they could sell me four of their barrels they manufacture for their cubs. Guess what? They have the same problem in that Univair will not sell the barrels to them either So they buy cub struts pre manufactured from Univair. I guess selling wing struts and forks that makes the A.D. note a non issue once installed a pretty handsome money maker for univair. Why would they want to sell the parts when they have the market cornered on complete wing strutts. If I sound sour, I am a little but I understand their position, It's business. I might do the same thing if I were in their shoes. At any rate I'll get some good barrels one way or the other, even if I have to contract a machine shop to manufacture them for me. Who Knows, I might work out a deal to supply homebuilders the barrels they need for their clip wing cub project and just bypass Univair altogether. One can get the 5/8 FAA approved forks from Aircraft spruce at this time but who Knows, Univair may stop supplying the forks too. M.D.Moon

Hi, again,  for those that are building up a clip wing cub and want to build up their own struts I have good news. After much frustration I have finally found a good source for the heavy duty 5/8 wing strut forks but more importantly, the weld in barrels that Univair won't sell.   Go to www.airframesalaska.com. They will sell the heavy duty forks P/N- AF89201-2 for $92.75 ea. and the weld in barrels P/N-AF12521-3 for $47.70 ea.  I don't know how long this source will last so better get them while you can before product liability concerns will dry up the only source I could find for the barrels.    Marc Moon

Marc,

A friend of mine sent me this link that contained your question as he knew I fabricate the barrels in question along with other "hard to find"  Piper style parts.......... If interested, the best way to find me is wd248@aol.com or I can send a phone number as I dont have much time for the forums.

Thanx

Wayne
