The built-in generator in a Rotax 582 is specified at 170 W at 6000 rpm. Since my average cruise is 4000 rpm this doesn't help me very much in power planning. Does anyone know the output of the Rotax 582 generator at 4000 rpm?

The mfg. rates output at full rpm, however full output is typically available by cruise rpm.
You should have full output (approx. 12 amps) by 4000 rpm.

Don't forget that 170watts is the maximum rating. Two things that can shorten the lifespan of a charging coil are vibration and heat. Rotax would love to sell you a new charging coil. Try to keep the power draw to 100watts or less and it should last the life of the engine.
