Friend Rob landed his GT-400 at my private strip in 10 inches of snow.

Nice photo Dan!  Let your friend Rob know about the EAA skiplane fly in January 22nd at EAA's Pioneer Airport behind the museum.  Maybe he would want to fly up.  Or better yet, maybe there is a group of ultralight or light planes that could come up together?  Here is the link for more information, http://eaa.org/news/2011/2011-01-06_skiplane.asp

Have fun and fly safe!

Cool!  I really should look into getting skis for my PPC so I don't have to sit idle for half the year.

The skis on this Eipper GT400 came off a Challenger and would probably fit on a lot of different planes.  The design is lightweight and well-proven. It's welded square tubing with a tough plastic base.  They are available from Don Zank.  He could probably make them to fit about anything.  Price is said to be very reasonable

There are two great ski flying videos coming out in January Light Plane World (any day now).  Steve you are going to love the PPC but don't try this at home unless you own the street.  A friend is going to loan me his strap-on skis made out of snowboards.  They are heavier and prone to twist in a crosswind landing..... but still fun.

Here are a couple of pics of my Firestar on water skis. Cost of the new skis were $75 from a sports store. I took all the hardware off the skis and added my own to fit the axle on the Firestar.

I put my Weedhopper on skis every winter. Only got one flight so far this winter, as it's been too cold on weekends. The nice weather only seems to come during the work week.

Here's a photo of my Weedhopper on skis. They are made from kids snowboards, with plywood and pine pylons to attach them to the axles.  The rigging is permanently attached to the skis, and an aluminum bracket.....slide off the wheel, slide on the ski, bolt the bracket to the plane, and it's ready to go...about 1/2 hr to switch between wheels and skis.

I have several videos taken of and from my Weedhopper flying on wheels and skis on my YouTube channel.
