WARBIRDS HANGER DANCE?

Great Idea Mike,

    We have great success with such at CAF in AZ and MN.  Big Band,  period costumes and lots of fun.

 You know, it's really too bad, that as an organization, we have the ability to post our thoughts in this "forums" section for all members to review and consider. We then can post our responses, both positive and negative for others to see. It creates a dialogue in which we can all think, speak our minds and stimulate possible change.

  Currently, there have been 272 views to this posting and yet only one person decided to add impute to the subject. Maybe as a group trying to promote aviation, we should not be so passive, we need to get invoved, not only "talk the talk", but also "walk the walk", so to speak.

  Please understand that it's not necessarily about this topic, but any topic in aviation. We have thousands of members, but only a few are using these forums...

RE:  Hanger Dance at EAA ??

        __ Even though I took the time to read this lame post, I don't have time to respond to it because I am too busy dealing

             with other more important activities.

        __ I am not in favor of having a hanger dance at EAA because there is too much going on there now and I will never

             get to see it all in my lifetime anyway.

        __ I don't think that there should be a hanger dance at EAA because it would probably be too much work, be too

              expensive, no one would attend, I am against having fun, I don't like activities that remind me of the past, I hate

              music, I don't want to learn anything about the way it might have been during WWII and I don't fit into my WWII

             military uniform anymore.

        __ I think that it might be a good event to try sometime, others have tried it with some success, and just think of the

              GREAT background "props" that are available during Oshkosh at no extra cost. Great music, airplanes, girls in

              dresses and men in uniform...WOW!!

So, what do you think??

My excuse is that I'm just getting active on the Oshkosh365 forums and have yet to make it through all the posts yet!

But to answer the question, I agree with the last option but with more enthusiasm. I think it's a great idea and would personally very much like to attend such a dance. My girlfriend and I are going to be there this year and I know she would love it as well. We're both very 1940's minded people and would love the opportunity to dress up, listen to big band, and dance in front of a B-17....it's actually one of our wedding reception ideas....it might be a good rehersal.

So yes, I fully support the EAA putting this together for (preferably) AirVenture 2010.

You are lucky to have found someone to share your passion with. Bringing her to OSHKOSH is a good start. Please read my post in the AIRVENTURE Forum under "First time at Camp Scholler". I babble  there trying to fit 36 years of great times into a short article. Please stop by our campsite in Camp Scholler while at OSHKOSH 2010 and enjoy our campfire / comaraderie. Perhaps your girlfriend can pick up a few ideas from "my expert". I have been lucky to have someone that enjoys the experience as much as I do. We spent our honeymoon at OSHKOSH 1980, brought both of our children to Oshkosh and now will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary while there. In any case, we hope both of you enjoy your "pre-rehersal" for you future wedding reception. Good luck!

i think if you had a uso style big band dance i would have to find a class a's to wear!!! that would  be fun and i think if planned well it would work, i like many out there have tons of ideas on our little convention but this one would be fun to do on like tuesday nite monday is concert and on the last weekend there are concerts and i think that it would have to go then for maximum attendance. i think with the collective we have here we could research communicate and have the thing planned and ready to go in a month.

p.s. with the salute to vetrans and 75th anniversaries this year this would be the priemere year to do it!!! 

Hey----that sounds like a great idea...we had one at PWK last week and it was a lot of fun. We had two Stearmans, a Mustang (Geraldine) and old memorabilia. Imagine what it would look like to have one of those with just about EVERY warbird left on earth. I definitely think we should do it!

 Without a doubt a Hanger Dance would be a real crowd pleaser.  We have Hanger Dances here in Missouri and with some the dance in a 1940's setting with WW2 Aircraft is the only draw.  People pay good money for admission and they are usually packed.  Having a Hanger Dance at AirVenture would be icing on the cake for me and my wife.  We have attended as reenactors for 8 years and will definitely be in attendance again this year.

Too bad we can't put a poll on the main EAA Forum.  I think the higher ups might be amazed at the interest in a Hanger Dance.

A Hanger Dance would be a great cap to the event. I wonder if it would be possible to add it to the Banquet after presentations and awards?

No kidding!  Although I have to admit, by the time the awards banquet winds down I'm about ready to pack it in...
